Becky + Stephen Sneak Peek. Calgary Wedding Photographer.

Last weekend Jaime and I had the privilege of being part of the wedding of Becky and Stephen, an amazing young couple with some incredible friends and family. We had been anticipating this wedding for quite a while beforehand because it was to be our first traditional Jewish wedding. We love experiencing new things, particularly cultural traditions and events and this wedding gave us an incredible respect for how the Jewish faith celebrates their weddings. The entire day was beautiful but the highlight for us was the Hora which is a celebratory dance to kick off the reception. Becky and Stephen arrived, were introduced, and began dancing. They were quickly joined by many of their guests and the energy and excitement swelled and swelled to the point that the jubilant couple was lifted in chairs and thrust into the air. For me it was a perfect way to set the tone for a fun, celebratory, exciting reception and we had a blast!
The day began with everyone getting ready- getting all dressed up and adorned with incredible bouquets and boutonnieres done by the wonderful Lakeview Flowers. We then headed downtown to brave the chilly November wind (which everyone did admirably) and create some portraits. Becky and Stephen are the type of couple that have a lot of fun together and so it made for a great time and some real, authentic images.
We then left for the ceremony which began after the sunset signaled the end of Shabbat. The first ceremony is called the Ketuba and is the signing of the marriage contract and it is followed by the larger ceremony held under the Chuppah. Both were beautiful and represented the importance of family and close friends. After the glass was broken and the ceremony was concluded we headed of to the Metropolitan Centre for the reception. It was decorated beautifully with furnishings from One West Events and the atmosphere was enhanced by the music of DJ Nico from Audiowerx. After the Hora the guests were treated to incredible food, emotional speeches and energetic dancing and celebrating with many friends and family.
Our first traditional Jewish wedding was an event that we will always remember and we wish Becky and Stephen a lifetime of grace, peace and love…
